Project of the Month

Hanging Candle Holders

enjoy Summertime brings cookouts and nighttime gatherings after the heat of the day subsides as the sun goes down. These candleholders can bring some soft, twinkly light to your outdoor gatherings. Hang them from sturdy tree branches or on hooks. They aren't the most stable candleholders around, so I wouldn't use them when it is windy and keep them way out of reach of children.

Materials

  • Glass Jelly Jars
  • Pliable medium-gauge wire from a craft or hardware store- I used gold and copper but you could use galvanized wire as well
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire cutters
  • Beads with large holes in the center (optional)
  • Tea light candles

Instructions

  1. cutwire Cut a piece of wire that is about four inches longer than the circumference of the jar.
  2. bendwire Cut another piece of wire that will be the handle. Make it as long or short as you like.
  3. handle Use the needle nose pliers to make a loop on each end of the piece of wire that will be the handle.
  4. handledone Thread the first piece of wire through the loops.
  5. attachwire Wrap the first wire around the jelly jar, just below the rim. Twist the ends together using the pliers until it is tight around the jar.
  6. securewire Position the handle so that it is centered on the jar. Cut another piece of wire that is about four inches longer than the circumference of the jar. Wrap that piece of wire around the jar and twist the ends together until it is tight. This piece of wire will help hold the handle in place so it is more stable.
  7. addbead If you like, you can add beads to the twisted ends of the wires.
  8. addcandle Put the tea lights inside the jars and hang them from a tree.
  9. enjoy Party on!
